Our approach to privacy

Background Remove is designed so that we collect as little information as possible. The core function of the tool — removing backgrounds from images — runs entirely on your device. We cannot see your images, and we do not want to.

What we do not collect

  • Images you process. All background removal runs locally in your browser using on-device AI. Your images are never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
  • Personal information. We do not require accounts, signups, or any form of personal identification to use the tool.
  • Payment information. The tool is free. We do not process payments and do not collect credit card numbers or billing details.

What we may collect

Like most websites, we use standard hosting infrastructure that may log basic technical data:

  • Aggregated analytics. We may use privacy-focused analytics that do not track individual users across sites. No cookies are used for tracking purposes.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider (Vercel) may log IP addresses, browser type, and request timestamps for operational purposes. These logs are not used to identify individuals and are retained for a limited period.

AI model caching

When you first use the tool, your browser downloads the AI model files — approximately 30 MB in total. These files are cached by your browser using a Service Worker for faster subsequent visits. This caching happens entirely on your device and does not involve our servers beyond the initial file transfer.

Third-party services

We use the following third-party services for infrastructure:

  • Vercel — Hosting and content delivery. Privacy policy
  • IMG.LY — The background removal library and AI models, delivered via CDN. Models run on your device; IMG.LY does not receive your images. Privacy policy

Cookies

Background Remove does not use cookies for tracking, advertising, or any other purpose. The Service Worker used for model caching does not involve cookies.

Children's privacy

The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.

Your rights

Since we do not collect personal data or require accounts, there is typically no personal data to access, correct, or delete. If you have questions about any data that may be associated with your use of the Service, contact us at the address below.
